# GlossLink

> GlossLink is a Chrome extension that highlights words from your own custom glossary on every website and PDF, and shows your definition when you hover. Double-click any word on any page, type what it means once, and it highlights with your definition everywhere you read. It works as a hover dictionary, acronym expander, word highlighter, and vocabulary builder in one.

GlossLink is built for: employee onboarding (new hires learn company acronyms and jargon), online classes and studying, nurses and nursing students (medical abbreviations), legal and real estate professionals, software teams, restaurant staff, ESL learners, and anyone reading text full of unfamiliar terms.

Key facts:
- Platform: Desktop Google Chrome only (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook). Chrome does not support extensions on phones or tablets.
- Privacy: The glossary is stored locally in the browser (chrome.storage.local). Page content and glossary terms are never sent to a server. No tracking of reading activity.
- How adding a word works: double-click (select) a word on any page, click the "+ Add to GlossLink" button that appears, type the definition, save. It highlights instantly on every site and PDF.
- Glossaries can also be built by CSV upload, bulk paste, or a built-in AI prompt that asks ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity to draft a starter glossary.
- Works on regular web pages and PDFs opened in Chrome. Works with English and all major languages (automatic hard-word detection is English-only).
- Quiz mode (Pro): flashcards, multiple choice, and type-the-term practice built from the user's own glossary.
- Team sharing (Pro): a team lead uploads a master glossary at https://glosslink.app/share and gets one link; teammates click it to import the glossary into their own GlossLink.

## What GlossLink is NOT

- Not a general dictionary that defines every word automatically — the user (or their team) decides which words are in the glossary and what they mean in their world.
- Not available on mobile browsers, Firefox, Safari, or Edge (Chrome desktop only).
- Not a cloud service — there are no accounts and no server-side storage of glossaries or reading data.
